ABOUT US
DeWitt Products is now in it’s fourth generation of ownership and operation by the McClellan family.
Founded in 1931 by Alfred D McClellan, DeWitt Products was formed after Alfred lost his cedar shingle company to fire. With insurance companies unable to pay due to the depression, he sold off his family home to pay creditors, moved the family into a one bedroom flat, and started over. Armed with a cement mixer and a couple asphalt coating formula’s, “Mac” as he was known as, mixed product in the morning, sold it the afternoon, and bought groceries on the way home. In 1938 he was able to purchase a building in Southwest Detroit, where DeWitt’s remains today.
Over the last nearly 90 years, DeWitt’s has developed a reputation for being leaders in innovation and quality in the roofing, waterproofing, and paving industries. DeWitt Products Company invented a wet/dry roof cement ("Wetstick") and tub and tile caulk ("Dewk") for the industry along with leading the way in non-asbestos asphalt roof coating technology. Being innovative and maintaining the best quality in the industry has set DeWitt's apart from the competition. DeWitt’s has also expanded into synthetic underlayments, ice and water underlayments, cleaners and single ply roofing repair.
